CERAMIC TILE MURAL

ELEMENTARY Woodland  Lois Frantz

Materials will be provided for each student to design a ceramic tile that will be incorporated into a large arrangement  in the school entryway. This creative project will be directed by Hastings artist, Cathy Newstead, and be a permanent art display.

 

 ART INSTRUCTION

ELEMENTARY All District Grades K – 5  Cindy Tribien

Since 2006, LEF has been providing the funds to supply Lakewood elementary students with art instruction and enable the district to meet the state mandated "Michigan Yes" requirements. Every classroom will receive 6 age appropriate art lessons from a qualified art instructor over the course of the school year using different media.

 

SPANISH INSTRUCTION

ELEMENTARY All District  Grades 3 – 5  Michelle Sharp

For the third straight year LEF has funded the Spanish instruction grant which brings a qualified Spanish instructor into each of these elementary classrooms twice monthly to give the children an early exposure to a foreign language. Lessons are designed to be grade appropriate and to foster enthusiasm for becoming bilingual.

 

“SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARFS” MUSICAL THEATER

 ELEMENTARY  Sunfield  Grades 1 – 5  Mary Jenks

This grant funds the purchase of scripts, royalty costs, music, and materials for sets, scenery and costumes. Many volunteer hours go into making this a rewarding experience for all involved.

 

DIGITAL CAMERA

ELEMENTARY  Woodland Grade 1  Jill Van Zyl

The camera will be used to facilitate various creative classroom projects such as making a memory book for each student.

 

2 CLASSROOM PERFORMANCE SYSTEMS

ELEMENTARY  Clarksville Grades K – 5  Chris Mitchell
MIDDLE SCHOOL  Grades 6 – 8  Betsy Wieland

Each system is a tool for immediate feedback in assessing students’ understanding of a subject. Each student has a handheld keypad to answer the teacher’s questions. Answers are instantly displayed enabling the teacher to decide whether the material has been adequately covered or requires further instruction.

 

SMART BOARD AND DATA PROJECTOR

MIDDLE SCHOOL Grades 6 – 8  Russ Miller

This technology will be used for enhanced presentation of material and classroom discussion for group projects such as planning in Community Leadership Class. The equipment will also be available for use in other classrooms in the building.

 

3 LCD MULTIMEDIA PROJECTORS

MIDDLE SCHOOL Grades 6 – 8  Buffy Meyers

These projection systems will be permanently installed in the Social Studies classrooms and allow teachers to access the curriculum options for enrichment beyond textbook material.

 

2 WIRELESS NOTEBOOK COMPUTERS

MIDDLE SCHOOL  Grades 6 – 8 Kelly Rowland

These computers will be utilized in the Homework Room enabling students struggling with assignments to have access to work online as necessary or to complete work that requires a computer. 

 

5 FLIP MINI-HD CAMCORDERS

MIDDLE SCHOOL Grade 8  Michelle Endsley

The camcorders will be put to use to integrate curriculum with Power Point multimedia presentations. Students will create a storyboard for their presentations.

 

FRESHMAN ACADEMY CURRICULUM SUPPLEMENTAL MATERIALS

HIGH SCHOOL  Freshman Academy  Shirley McMillen

Workbooks and DVDs reinforce character education and leadership development in a curriculum designed to prepare students to be successful high school students.

 

2 DIGITAL SLR CAMERAS AND ACCESSORIES

HIGH SCHOOL  Publication Department  Ken Smith

These cameras will provide students with excellent equipment to create a high quality product for publication of the yearbook and school newspaper.
